You might wonder why “Kerboulistan” is often mentioned in this blog and also elsewhere. Or maybe not!
Nonetheless, this article is dedicated to give you a fair and simple explanation.
First, we need to introduce DCS World: a combat flight simulator on PC, allowing players to make their own scenarios in a “sandbox”-like environment. “Allowing” might not be the right term, as DCS has been mostly developed as an aircraft digital museum more than a actual game, so it’s up to the players to build the “game” part.

As most of the content allows for historical events to be reproduced in some way as a gameplay element (reenacting Gulf War, WW2 D-Day, etc.), most of the event organizers and players might just settle for realism and historical accuracy.
Though, some of events depicted in DCS might not be “Twitch” or “YouTube” friendly (DCS most used maps are Syria and Persian Gulf, can be very sensitive topics from time to time).
“Kerboulistan” was founded as a fictional country that could be placed anywhere and anytime in history, like Strangereal in Ace Combat, allowing for Jack Ryan-like military accuracy with a clear separation with reality.
The lore of “Kerboulistan” is way deeper than you think, as the country had to get a significant history to make players believe in its existence during DCS World events. We made a constitution, a whole economy system and a federal government, mostly for fun but also to give players new concepts without real history constraints.
